Malkin was a psychic based in Sydney who Claire and her friend went to for a reading. He knew Claire was pregnant and became alarmed a moment later, refusing to carry on with the reading.
When Claire returned a few months later, he read her again and warned her that the baby had to be raised by her, persisting in calling her about it for the next few months telling her he had a plan.
Finally, when Claire couldn’t bear to sign adoption papers for her unborn child, she asked him what his plan was and he gave her $6,000 and a plane ticket to get on Oceanic 815 the next day, telling her that ‘good people’ in Los Angeles would be waiting for her to adopt her baby1.
