Name: Hugo Reyes1 aka ‘Hurley

Occupation: Unknown

First Appearance: 1×01 – Pilot

Timeline

Hurley survived the crash of Oceanic 815 and in the chaos of the aftermath, was told to look after the heavily pregnant Claire by Jack. He later took charge of dividing the remaining in-flight meals up and distributing, making sure that Claire got two.2

The next day he suggested doing something about the dead bodies in the fuselage3 and later bonded with Sayid over their dislike of Sawyer – although that stumbled a bit when Sayid revealed he had been in the Iraqi Republican Guard during the Gulf War.4

While members of the group were off on a hike, Hurley helped Jack perform surgery on injured US Marshall Edward Mars but unfortunately fainted on him when he started bleeding out.5

Hurley later found out that Kate was a fugitive, although he didn’t confront her, choosing to follow Jack’s lead of not interfering.6

A few days later, Hurley came to blows with Sawyer as he was hoarding a stash of peanuts – the last of the group’s food. Later, he helped Charlie spear-fishing, though not entirely successfully.7

A few days later, Hurley relocated to the caves with Jack and some of the other survivors8.

The following day, Hurley was part of a group who tried to rescue Jack after he was trapped in a cave-in9.

A few days later, Hurley found some golf clubs and built a homemade golf course on the island so that people had something fun to do instead of merely bouncing from one crisis to another. During the day, his friendship was Charlie was strengthened as the pair bonded on the course10.

Following an apparent attack on Claire a few nights later, Hurley resolved to take a census of the survivors so they could keep track of who was who, and who was staying at each location. When he cross checked it against the manifest he got from Hurley, he found someone wasn’t on it: Ethan11.

When Michael decided to take a party looking for the missing Charlie and Claire against Locke’s advice, he left Walt in Hurley’s care. Hurley and Walt later played backgammon, Walt roundly beating Hurley in spite of the latter’s insistence that he was really good (coming 17th in a tournament once). Disgruntled, Hurley left, promising that Walt that he’d get the $20,000 that he’d won from him12.

Days later, Hurley bonded with Jin over his pathetic attempts to fish – although Jin refused to pee on Hurley when he trod on a sea urchin13.

Hurley continued to be the caretaker of the group; after Charlie killed Ethan, Hurley helped him bury the body and began to worry he might be suffering from post traumatic shock, asking Sayid to talk to him14, and when Jin fell out with everyone, he tried to make him feel better by offering to go fishing with him15.
