Pre-Island

Boone traveled to Sydney to save his stepsister from another bad relationship, ultimately paying her boyfriend Bryan $50,000 to leave her. However, he discovered that the whole thing was a scam and that Shannon was trying to recover what she saw as her inheritance – and this wasn’t the first time Boone had fallen for it2.

When Bryan left Shannon, she went to Boone’s hotel room, a little drunk, and confessed she knew he’d always come for her because she knew he was in love with her and the pair ended up having sex. Afterward, Boone was hurt that she wanted things to go back to normal once they returned to Los Angeles3.

On the Island

Following the crash of 815, Boone used his lifeguard training to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Rose, but Jack told him he was doing it wrong and sent him on a wild goose chase to find pens to perform a tracheotomy to get him out of the way.4

That night, Boone tried to comfort Shannon but was rebuffed as she believed rescuers would arrive soon.5

The next day, Jack left Boone in charge of two injured survivors while he went looking for the plane’s cockpit.6 He later lost his temper with Shannon, causing her to go on a hike with Kate, Sayid, Charlie and Sawyer. He joined them and was with the group when they were attacked by a polar bear, and subsequently discovered a repeating mayday transmission being broadcast on the island.7

That night, Boone and the others agreed not to tell the other survivors about the signal to avoid a panic. While he was keeping watch, Boone tried to take the gun from Sayid – and was roundly dismissed.8

A few days later, Boone was worried about Rose and suggested Jack speak with her. He also bickered with Shannon, causing her to con Charlie into catching fish for her, which he later apologized to him for.9

The next day, Boone tried and failed to save fellow survivor Joanna, who was caught in a riptide. Instead, Boone was himself rescued by Jack, much to his shame. He challenged Jack later, asking him who had appointed him leader and when Jack took off into the jungle, Boone saw the camp’s water was unattended and hid it for safekeeping. Unfortunately the situation quickly spiraled out of control as Claire collapsed from dehydration and Kate and Sayid started searching for the water thief. Later, he tried to sneak Claire some water and was caught by Charlie, who told the camp it was Boone who stole the water. It was starting to get ugly when Jack returned and told everyone to leave him alone, and that they had to learn to live together or they’d die alone10.

A few days later, Boone was left in charge of an antenna on the beach which was to be used to triangulate the French signal. However, he left it in Shannon’s care when Jack was trapped in a cave-in and he rushed to help him11.

When Shannon’s asthma medicine ran out, Boone saw Sawyer reading a book he had packed in his luggage with her spare medicine, and looted Sawyer’s stash to find it – receiving a beating for his troubles. Boone spent most of the next few days caring for Shannon as she suffered attacks, eventually eased by Sun’s eucalyptus leaf paste12.

Boone and Shannon were amongst the spectators at Hurley’s golf tournament a few days later, betting on Jack’s final shot13.

When Claire and Charlie were taken by Ethan, Boone joined Locke, Kate and Jack in searching for them. When they split up, he stayed with Locke and the pair bonded. That night in the jungle, they uncovered a mysterious metal plate embedded in the ground14.

Boone’s regular absence from camp left time for Shannon to develop a close friendship with Sayid, which he disapproved of – although he continued to excavate the hatch with Locke15.

After a week, Locke became concerned that he was going to tell Shannon and knocked Boone out, tied him up, smeared a hallucinogenic on his wound and left with him a knife to cut himself free. Boone experienced a vivid hallucination where he believed that Shannon was killed by the Smoke Monster. When he returned to camp, and Locke revealed it wasn’t real, Boone realized that the primary emotion he felt on Shannon’s death had been relief, and he and Locke left together to head back to the hatch16.

Boone’s behavior started to change, causing him to become very protective of Locke – even holding a knife to Michael’s throat -and stand-offish with Shannon17.

When Locke and Sayid organized the camp’s defenses to guard against Ethan, Boone volunteered to stand guard against Sayid’s better judgment and he fell asleep on guard and only awoke the next morning, just before Scott’s body was found, although Locke believed Ethan came from the water to the beach18.

Sayid’s flirtation with Shannon moved forward and he told Boone that the two of them might become more than friends as a courtesy. A frustrated Boone told him that Shannon had a history of using men who could help her and on the island, that meant Sayid19.
